Buddy Hield
Lazarus-like Buddy Hield scores 20 points Thursday
Thu, May 2, 2024, 6:50 PM
Buddy Hield played 21 minutes off the bench in Philadelphia's Game 6 loss to the Knicks, accumulating 20 points (6-of-10 FGs, 2-of-2 FTs), four rebounds, one assist, and six 3-pointers.
Analysis: Needing a spark after falling behind by a 33-11 margin, 76ers coach Nick Nurse called on Hield for the first time since Game 3. Give the veteran sharpshooter credit for staying ready, as he came out hot and finished with 20 points off the bench after scoring two in Games 1 through 3. Nicolas Batum also had a good night off the bench, accounting for 16 points, seven rebounds, two assists, one block, and three 3-pointers in 28 minutes. Hield and Batum are in a similar spot heading into the offseason, as they will be unrestricted free agents. The former offers a higher fantasy ceiling, but that would likely require him to land a starting role with a non-contender. As for Batum, he'll spark interest among playoff-caliber teams needing a 3-and-D wing.
Tobias Harris
Glorified cardio: Tobias Harris goes scoreless
Thu, May 2, 2024, 6:45 PM
Tobias Harris was 0-of-2 from the foul in Thursday's Game 6 loss to the Knicks, going scoreless with four rebounds and three assists in 29 minutes.
Analysis: After performing well in the 76ers' Game 5 overtime victory, Harris was brutal in Game 6. He only attempted two shots, finishing with a team-worst minus-10 rating. Harris will be an unrestricted free agent this summer, and his nearly $46 million coming off the books gives Philadelphia room to strengthen the roster around Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxey (who's a restricted free agent). While Harris can offer top-60 fantasy value, he falls in a place where managers tend to reach for players with higher upsides. His ceiling next season will depend on where he lands; joining a non-contender where he can be a marquee option would boost his value.
Kelly Oubre
Kelly Oubre Jr. drops in 17 points in Game 6 loss
Thu, May 2, 2024, 6:40 PM
Kelly Oubre Jr. amassed 17 points (7-of-14 FGs), five rebounds, one assist, one steal, one block, and three 3-pointers in 43 minutes in Thursday's 118-115 loss to the Knicks.
Analysis: After scoring 14 points on 5-of-14 shooting in the series' first two games, Oubre was solid on both ends of the floor for the 76ers. He scored 14 or more in the final four games while accounting for six steals and three blocked shots. Oubre will be an unrestricted free agent this summer, and his production in this series should have preserved his stock. As for his fantasy value, the Tsunami Papi is likely to be a late-round option, at best, unless he lands in a spot where he's guaranteed a place in the starting lineup.
Tyrese Maxey
Tyrese Maxey struggles in Game 6, scores 17 points
Thu, May 2, 2024, 6:36 PM
Tyrese Maxey shot 6-of-18 from the field and 4-of-4 from the foul line in Thursday's loss to the Knicks, accumulating 17 points, five rebounds, five assists, two steals, and one 3-pointer in 43 minutes.
Analysis: After going off for 46 points in Philadelphia's Game 5 victory, Maxey had a tough night as the 76ers' season ended on Thursday. He made some big plays down the stretch, but the slow start was one reason the Knicks led by as much as 22 points in the first quarter. A subpar Game 6 should not put too much of a damper on Maxey's season, as he stepped up to become the emerging star Philadelphia believed it had when they finally traded James Harden. However, the point guard will be a restricted free agent this summer, and as Fat Joe famously said, “yesterday's price is not today's price.” Philadelphia should re-sign Maxey, but it will cost them more money than it would have if they'd extended his deal before the season began.
Joel Embiid
Joel Embiid posts 39/13/2/1/1 line in Game 6 loss
Thu, May 2, 2024, 6:27 PM
Joel Embiid played 40 minutes in Thursday's 118-115 loss to the Knicks, tallying 39 points (12-of-25 FGs, 13-of-13 FTs), 13 rebounds, two assists, one steal, one block, and two 3-pointers.
Analysis: While Embiid's production tailed off during the fourth quarter, last season's MVP was a warrior in this series. He played through a left knee that did not look fully healed, and a case of Bell's palsy didn't help matters, either. Health has been the story throughout Embiid's career, with availability being the most significant issue. The productivity will be there, so The Process will remain an early first-round pick in most fantasy drafts in the fall. However, the emergence of Victor Wembanyama knocks Embiid down a peg to where he may no longer be a lock to come off the board within the first five picks.
Joel Embiid
Joel Embiid (knee) available for Game 6 Thursday
Thu, May 2, 2024, 2:33 PM
NBA Injury Report
Joel Embiid (left knee injury recovery) is active for Thursday's game against the Knicks.
Analysis: As expected, Embiid will play as the 76ers look to extend this series to a decisive seventh game. Should he encounter any flare-ups with the knee, Paul Reed would be the next man up in the rotation.
Joel Embiid
Joel Embiid (knee) questionable for Game 6 Thurs.
Wed, May 1, 2024, 1:32 PM
NBA Injury Report
Joel Embiid (left knee injury recovery) is questionable for Thursday's game against the Knicks.
Analysis: Embiid remains on the injury report, but the good news is that the migraine headache is no longer an issue. Look for him to log heavy minutes as the 76ers attempt to force a decisive seventh game.
Tobias Harris
Tobias Harris puts up 19/8 line in Game 5 win
Tue, Apr 30, 2024, 4:38 PM
Tobias Harris provided a scoring boost on Tuesday with 19 points (7-of-11 FGs), eight rebounds, one assist, one block and three triples against the Knicks.
Analysis: Harris has struggled during this series, but this was his best performance through the first five games. He hit a pair of clutch free throws to give the 76ers a four-point lead in overtime, which contributed to his highest-scoring night of the series. He helped the 76ers stay alive, but they'll need him to play like he did in this game moving forward if they want to pull off the comeback. Game 6 will be back in Philadelphia on Thursday.
Joel Embiid
Joel Embiid records triple-double in Game 5 win
Tue, Apr 30, 2024, 4:16 PM
Joel Embiid recorded a triple-double on Tuesday with 19 points (7-of-19 FGs), 16 rebounds, 10 assists, one steal, five blocks, one triple and nine turnovers in Game 5 against New York.
Analysis: Embiid has clearly been playing through injuries throughout the series, and it showed with his performance in this game. It wasn't all bad, and he was still able to make some big plays late. The triple-double also helps make his night look a little better, but the poor shooting and plethora of turnovers were more indicative of his performance. Still, they were able to steal a win on the road, which shifts the series back to Philly for Game 6. They will still have to win another game in New York to win the series, and if they want to do that, Embiid will have to be better, even if he's hurting.
Tyrese Maxey
Tyrese Maxey keeps 76ers alive with 46-point night
Tue, Apr 30, 2024, 4:11 PM
Tyrese Maxey led the 76ers with 46 points (17-of-30 FGs), five rebounds, nine assists and seven 3-pointers in a 112-106 overtime win over the Knicks in Game 5 on Tuesday.
Analysis: With Joel Embiid struggling, Maxey stepped up to lead the 76ers in this game. Even when it seemed like the game was over, Maxey kept them alive. They trailed by six points with 30 seconds left when Maxey converted a four-point play. Then he knocked down a deep three after Josh Hart split free throws to tie the game and force overtime. Maxey added five more points in the overtime period to extend the series and force a Game 6 in Philadelphia. This was the closest thing we've seen to Reggie Miller's eight points in nine seconds, and the 76ers now have some life and momentum in this series.
Joel Embiid
Joel Embiid (knee/migraine) available Tuesday
Tue, Apr 30, 2024, 12:31 PM
NBA Injury Report
Joel Embiid (left knee injury recovery, migraine) is available for Tuesday's Game 5 against the Knicks.
Analysis: Embiid, who has been dealing with multiple injuries during this series, will play on Tuesday as the 76ers look to keep their season alive. If the reigning MVP experiences any complications with his knee, Paul Reed will take on an increased workload.
Kelly Oubre
Kelly Oubre (illness) to play in Game 5 Tuesday
Tue, Apr 30, 2024, 11:45 AM
John Clark on Twitter
Kelly Oubre Jr. (illness) will play on Tuesday's game against the Knicks.
Analysis: Despite missing the 76ers' pregame shootaround, Oubre was probable on the initial injury report. He will play in Game 5, with 76ers coach Nick Nurse saying that “it's a matter of how far he can go” regarding how much Oubre plays. Nicolas Batum and DeAnthony Melton can play additional minutes if Kelly is limited.
Joel Embiid
Joel Embiid (knee/migraine) questionable Tuesday
Tue, Apr 30, 2024, 4:34 AM
NBA injury report
Joel Embiid (left knee injury recovery and migraine) is listed as questionable for the 76ers' Tuesday matchup with the Knicks.
Analysis: It's not surprising that Embiid's nagging knee injury is on the injury report, but his migraine is a new designation. He did not report to shootaround on Tuesday morning and Paul Reed will be first in line for a heavier workload if Embiid is ruled out.
Kelly Oubre
Kelly Oubre (illness) probable Tuesday vs. Knicks
Tue, Apr 30, 2024, 4:27 AM
NBA injury report
Kelly Oubre (illness) is listed as probable for Tuesday's 76ers-Knicks game.
Analysis: Oubre didn't go through shootaround on Tuesday morning because of an illness but is expected to play in Game 5.
Joel Embiid
Joel Embiid (knee) questionable Tuesday vs. NYK
Mon, Apr 29, 2024, 8:12 AM
NBA Injury Report
Joel Embiid is questionable for Tuesday's matchup with New York due to left knee injury recovery.
Analysis: Embiid's knee has bothered him throughout the series with the Knicks, so it's no surprise that he's questionable for Game 5. Philly is on the brink of elimination, but it's unclear if the Sixers want to risk further injury and fight for a Game 6 or give Embiid time to recover and essentially concede the series. If he can't go, Paul Reed would presumably start in his place.
Kelly Oubre
Kelly Oubre Jr. scores 19 points in Game 4 loss
Sun, Apr 28, 2024, 10:28 AM
Kelly Oubre Jr. shot 7-of-15 from the field and 2-of-2 from the foul line in Sunday's 97-92 loss to the Knicks, tallying 19 points, three rebounds, two assists, one steal, one block, and three 3-pointers in 40 minutes.
Analysis: After scoring 15 points in Philadelphia's Game 3 victory, Oubre was even more productive in Game 4. Only Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxey scored more points among 76ers players, and the Tsunami Papi recorded his second full stat line of the series (Game 2). Given how quiet Tobias Harris has been this series, Oubre has emerged as Philadelphia's third option on the offensive end of the floor. Unfortunately for the 76ers, they find themselves in a 3-1 hole heading into Game 5 on Tuesday night in New York.
Tyrese Maxey
Tyrese Maxey finishes Game 4 loss with 23 points
Sun, Apr 28, 2024, 10:24 AM
Tyrese Maxey accounted for 23 points (8-of-21 FGs, 4-of-4 FTs), six rebounds, six assists, one steal, and three 3-pointers in 43 minutes in Sunday's Game 4 loss to the Knicks.
Analysis: Maxey and the 76ers are now on the brink of elimination, and his production decreased in Philadelphia's two home games. After shooting 54% from the field in Games 1 and 2 (68 points), Maxey shot 17-of-42 and scored 48 at home. That isn't terrible, but the decrease becomes magnified when the “supporting cast” continues to offer limited value. Kyle Lowry (7/5/7 with one 3-pointer) shot 1-of-6 from the field, and Tobias Harris (10 points, eight rebounds) was 4-of-10. Game 5 is on Tuesday in New York, with Philadelphia facing a 3-1 deficit.
Joel Embiid
Joel Embiid scores 27, goes quiet in 4th quarter
Sun, Apr 28, 2024, 10:18 AM
Derek Bodner on Twitter
Joel Embiid finished Sunday's 97-92 loss to the Knicks with 27 points (7-of-19 FGs, 12-of-14 FTs), 10 rebounds, six assists, three steals, two blocks, and one 3-pointer in 44 minutes.
Analysis: The non-Embiid minutes have been problematic for the 76ers in this series, and that proved to be the difference in Game 4. Philadelphia was a minus-6 in the four first-half minutes that the reigning MVP did not play, and they lost by five. For the first time in his career (regular season or postseason), Embiid played the entire second half. While 76ers coach Nick Nurse said after the game that his star center was “feeling good and wanted to go,” Embiid was 0-of-5 from the field and scored one point in the fourth quarter. Give him credit for playing through a knee issue and a case of Bell's palsy. 76ers players not named Embiid or Tyrese Maxey need to step up in Game 5 on Tuesday.
Joel Embiid
Joel Embiid (knee) available for Game 4 Sunday
Sun, Apr 28, 2024, 6:34 AM
NBA Injury Report
Joel Embiid (left knee injury recovery) is available for Sunday's game against the Knicks.
Analysis: To no one's surprise, Embiid will play on Sunday. The reigning MVP, who has also been dealing with a mild case of Bell's palsy, scored a playoff career-high 50 points in Thursday's victory. The 76ers are looking to even the series at two games apiece.
Joel Embiid
Joel Embiid (knee) questionable Sunday for Game 4
Sat, Apr 27, 2024, 11:45 AM
NBA Injury Report
Joel Embiid (left knee injury recovery) is questionable to play in Game 4 against the Knicks on Sunday.
Analysis: Embiid will continue to be on the injury report as he manages this left knee injury, as well as Bell's Palsy. However, he will continue to play through it. He'll look to have another big night and try to tie the series 2-2.
